Brentford defender Kayode joins Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur stars in BBC's PL TOTW
Published: August 26, 2025
Brentford defender Michael Kayode has earned a spot in the BBC Premier League Team of the Week, joining stars from Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur after an outstanding display on Matchday 2.
The list, selected by former Watford striker Troy Deeney, also featured players from Burnley, Newcastle United and Everton.
Kayode played a crucial role in Brentford’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, producing a commanding performance on the right flank.
The 21-year-old impressed with his long throws, strong tackling, key interceptions, and relentless marking of Villa winger Morgan Rogers, whom he repeatedly shut down throughout the game.
His efforts not only helped Brentford secure their first win of the season but also earned him widespread praise and recognition in Deeney’s selection.
Deeney opted for Jordan Pickford in goal, while Kayode lined up in defense alongside Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber, and Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal.
The midfield trio included Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes, and on loan Manchester City’s midfielder Jack Grealish, with the forward line comprising Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson, Brighton’s Joao Pedro, and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres.
As the season progresses, Kayode will be aiming to maintain his form and establish himself as one of Brentford’s key performers.
