'Improved a lot' – Eddie Howe hails Osula's progress before Newcastle's trip to Leeds United
Published: August 29, 2025
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has heaped praise on forward Will Osula, highlighting the youngster's progress and growing influence ahead of their Premier League meeting with Leeds United at Elland Road.
Osula, who arrived at St. James' Park in the summer of 2024, netted his first goal of the season as a second-half substitute in Monday's narrow 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.
The Danish-Nigerian striker, currently the club's only recognized number nine, is expected to play a crucial role as Newcastle look to remain competitive in domestic and European competitions this season.
Addressing the media in his pre-match press conference, Howe commended Osula's display against the reigning champions and expressed optimism about his continued development.
"I thought Will did really well when he came on on Monday night. He gave us renewed energy, he has improved a lot from this time last year," Howe said.
The former Bournemouth boss added that the goal would boost Osula's confidence and give him the platform to truly showcase his talent in a Newcastle shirt.
"He has gained the knowledge and experience of how we play, he is gaining in confidence and that goal will do him the world of good."
Will Osula joined Newcastle United in the summer following Sheffield Wednesday's relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Born in Aarhus, Denmark, the forward has featured for Denmark across various youth categories, including the U19s and U21s.
However, he remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level, having yet to make an appearance for Denmark's first team.
Looking ahead, Osula will be eager to build on his promising start, earn more playing time, and establish himself as a consistent performer in the Premier League.
