'It could be Uche' – Getafe president admits club may sell Wolves target before deadline day
Published: August 30, 2025
Getafe president Ángel Torres has admitted that the club must sanction at least one outgoing transfer before the close of the summer window, with Christantus Uche among those who could be moved on.
In one of the soap operas involving a Nigerian player this window, Uche was on the brink of joining Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers but the deal has not yet been finalized, with reports indicating the midfielder is reluctant to leave Getafe and prefers to continue his career in Spain.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the Getafe number 10 has featured prominently at the start of the new campaign, playing every minute of the club's opening three La Liga matches.
Speaking to Movistar ahead of Getafe's La Liga clash with Valencia on Friday, Torres acknowledged that the club’s transfer dealings remain constrained by registration issues, with seven players still unable to be officially added to the squad list.
In quotes relayed by Fichajes, Ángel Torres said: "We’re in the same situation as we were two weeks ago.
"We still have a number of players left to register, and to do that, we need to sell someone who can add value to our squad.
"It could be Uche, or it could be someone else. Tomorrow we have to decide; we have offers for several players."
Torres revealed that clubs from England, Germany and Mexico are among those who have made approaches, but stressed that the next 24 hours would be decisive.
"There are several English teams, a German team, a Mexican team… we’re facing a tricky weekend,” he continued.
"But I’m very happy with the squad we have. There are seven players left to register no matter what. Tomorrow is the key."
The funds from the potential sale of Uche Twill allow the club to register Neyou, Sancris, Kiko Femenía, Abqar, Juanmi and Javi Muñoz.
Uche is expected to resolve his club future before linking up with the Nigerian national team in Uyo, where the Super Eagles will host Rwanda's Wasps in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier.
