Out-of-contract Super Eagles striker in talks with Celtic following Sevilla exit

Sevilla have officially confirmed the departure of Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho after both parties agreed to terminate his contract.

The Manchester City academy graduate joined the Andalusian outfit last summer on a deal that was meant to run until June 2026.

However, his time in Spain was cut short after making just eleven appearances across all competitions, scoring three times in the Copa del Rey.

Iheanacho also spent part of last season on loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship, where he featured 15 times, registering one goal and two assists.

Now a free agent, the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner is eligible to sign for a new club outside the transfer window.

According to Sky Sports UK, Scottish champions Celtic are interested in Iheanacho and are set to resume talks with the forward on Tuesday, having failed to finalise a deal before deadline day.

Should the move materialise, Iheanacho would be reunited with Brendan Rodgers, under whom he enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at Leicester City.

During Rodgers' tenure, the Taye Academy product notched 68 goal involvements (43 goals, 25 assists) in 143 matches for the Foxes.

Meanwhile, the striker has been omitted from the Super Eagles squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa.
