No chance of Tosin getting England or Nigeria call-up for October games after Chelsea boss update
Published: September 26, 2025
Tosin Adarabioyo will miss any chance of being called up by either England manager Thomas Tuchel or Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle in October after Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed the centre-back will be sidelined with a calf injury.
The 28-year-old is set to miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion and is expected to remain out until after the upcoming international break.
"Tosin is injured. He will probably be out until the international break; he has a small problem in his calf,” Maresca said during Friday’s pre-match press conference, emphasizing the defender’s significance in Chelsea’s backline.
Adarabioyo has been a key presence for Chelsea this season, starting four of the club’s seven matches across all competitions.
He was rested in Wednesday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Lincoln City, highlighting the careful management of his fitness amid an already injury-hit defence, which includes long-term absentees Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Adarabioyo has featured for England at youth levels but remains uncapped at senior level, leaving the door open for Nigeria.
Reports had suggested a potential switch to the Super Eagles, with the defender visiting Lagos in July to host a youth tournament.
The current calf injury, however, rules him out of participation in October’s World Cup qualifiers, leaving both managers to look elsewhere.
