'One wanted to leave' - Di Marzio highlights key difference between Lookman and Vlahovic transfer sagas
Published: September 27, 2025
Gianluca Di Marzio, the renowned transfer market reporter, has shed fresh light on the situation surrounding Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, insisting the Nigerian's case cannot be compared to that of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Di Marzio reflected on the summer saga that saw Lookman strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan, a deal that ultimately collapsed.
The 27-year-old was temporarily sidelined from first-team training after pushing for the transfer, sparking questions over his long-term future in Bergamo.
"Lookman is a different case from Vlahovic," Di Marzio said as quoted by Inter News24.
"One wanted to leave, had an agreement with another team, and there was a negotiation where no agreement was found. That created a difficult situation that has only recently been recomposed.
"On the other hand, Lookman never said he wanted to leave. He must now reconquer Bergamo."
The comparison with Vlahovic, who openly pursued a transfer before remaining at Juventus, highlights the contrasting approaches.
While Vlahovic’s standoff created lasting tension, Di Marzio stressed that Lookman’s dispute was less confrontational, suggesting Atalanta’s management handled the matter with authority.
Lookman, who has been a key figure for the Italian Serie A side since arriving from RB Leipzig, made his return to action in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Torino last weekend.
