Confirmed: Slavia Prague CB ruled out of Nigeria's WCQ in October after suffering long-term injury

Slavia Prague head coach Jindřich Trpišovský has confirmed that Nigerian defender Igho Ogbu faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious injury.

It also comes as a setback for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, with Ogbu’s injury ruling him out of October’s must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.

Speaking after his side’s 2-0 victory over Dukla Prague, Trpišovský provided an update on the player’s condition and ruled him out of the upcoming Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

"Igoh will definitely not play for Inter. The injury was serious and will be long-term,” the coach told the official website of the club.

The 25-year-old centre-back, who has been a consistent presence in Slavia’s backline, is now expected to undergo a period of rehabilitation before any return can be considered.

Trpišovský emphasized that the medical team is closely monitoring his situation but admitted there is no quick solution.

The absence of Ogbu is a significant blow for Slavia as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures both domestically and in Europe.

His commanding presence in central defense and ability to read the game have been vital for the team.

Ogbu has not been called up for seven matches contested by Slavia Prague this term due to fitness concerns.
