'Big blow' - Slavia assistant coach admits Ogbu will be missed in UCL clash v Inter Milan
Published: September 28, 2025
Slavia Prague assistant coach Zdeněk Houštecký has highlighted the challenge his team faces ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan, following injuries to key defenders Igho Ogbu and Holeš.
"We will definitely miss Ogbu and Holeš, which is a big blow,” Houštecký said, as quoted by efotbal, while expressing confidence in the squad’s depth.
Houštecký pointed to young players such as Tomáš Vlček, David Zima, and Štěpán Chaloupek, who have already shown their ability to step into leadership roles and cover for injured senior players.
The coach believes their readiness can help the team maintain defensive stability despite the absence of key personnel.
Ogbu, 25, has already missed seven of Slavia Prague’s matches this season due to fitness concerns.
His injury also rules him out of Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho, meaning Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will be unable to call him up.
Despite the setback, Slavia Prague remain confident that capable replacements can step up, allowing both the club and the Nigerian international to focus on recovery and future success in the Champions League and for Nigeria.
