Fifa U20 World Cup Norway 1-0 Nigeria: Flying Eagles denied two penalties in loss to Scandinavians

The Flying Eagles’ campaign at the FIFA U-20 World Cup got off to a disappointing start as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Norway at Estadio Fiscal in Talca, Chile.

The only goal of the game came early, with Rasmus Holten converting a penalty in the 9th minute after Daniel Bameyi was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Nigeria battled hard for an equalizer throughout the match but were twice denied by VAR when potential penalty appeals were overturned, leaving the Flying Eagles frustrated.

Despite dominating possession at various stages and creating several chances, including close-range efforts from Kparobo Arierhi, Israel Ayuma, and Tahir Maigana, the finishing touch proved elusive.

Arierhi had an early effort hit the crossbar, while Ayuma saw a long-range strike saved by Norway goalkeeper Einar Fauskanger.

The Flying Eagles showed determination in the second half, with Sani Suleiman and Abduljelil Kamaldeen introduced to bolster the attack.

Daniel Daga and Amos Ochoche worked tirelessly in midfield, but Norway held firm defensively, with several key blocks and clearances keeping the score intact.

Nigeria now turn their attention to their next group match against Saudi Arabia on Friday, a must-win fixture if they are to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
