Four Norway players the Flying Eagles must keep quiet in Fifa U20 World Cup opener

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are set to open their 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup campaign against a determined Norway U20 side at the Estadio Fiscal.

Coached by Aliyu Zubairu, the Flying Eagles will need to be vigilant as they face a team blending Scandinavian discipline with emerging talent.

Here are four Norway the Flying Eagles cannot afford to ignore:

1. Markus Haaland (Left Winger, SK Brann)

At 20, Haaland is known for his explosive pace and creative vision, making him a constant menace on the left flank for SK Brann.

His ability to cut inside and deliver dangerous crosses could challenge Nigeria’s right-back Sulaiman Yusuf throughout the match.

2. Bork Bang-Kittilsen (Forward, Mjällby AIF)

The 20-year-old forward is Norway’s focal point in attack, combining aerial strength with clinical finishing for Mjällby AIF.

Recent performances in U20 qualifiers highlight his ability to exploit gaps in central defense, putting captain Daniel Daga and his colleagues to the test.

3. Sondre Granaas (Central Midfielder, Molde FK)

Granaas is the engine of Norway’s midfield at 19, orchestrating play with precise passing and box-to-box energy for Molde FK.

His set-piece delivery and ability to link with Haaland and Bang-Kittilsen make him a player the Flying Eagles must monitor closely to maintain control of midfield.

4. Håkon Røsten (Centre-Back, Ranheim IL)

The 19-year-old anchors Norway’s defense with leadership and strong tackling for Ranheim IL. His comfort on the ball and awareness of transitions could frustrate Nigeria’s attackers if not carefully managed.

Norway’s mix of technical skill and physicality presents a stern challenge, but the Flying Eagles’ attacking depth and counter-attacking flair could prove decisive.

Securing a victory in this opener is critical to setting the tone for their remaining group matches against Colombia and Saudi Arabia.
