Uefa Champions League: No minutes for Nwaneri and Onyemaechi as Arsenal see off Olympiacos
Published: October 02, 2025
Arsenal recorded a 2-0 victory over Olympiacos Piraeus in their UEFA Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium, but it was a quiet night for Nigeria international Bruno Onyemaechi and Nigeria-eligible midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, who both remained on the bench.
Teenage midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, a rising talent in Mikel Arteta’s squad, was listed among the substitutes but was not introduced into the game as the Gunners secured three points.
On the other side, Super Eagles left-back Bruno Onyemaechi was also an unused substitute for Olympiacos.
Since his move from Boavista in the January transfer window, the 26-year-old has found consistent playing time hard to come by, with Argentina international Francisco Ortega preferred in the starting role.
His lack of minutes remains a concern as he looks to establish himself at the Greek club.
Arsenal’s goals came through Gabriel Martinelli, who capitalised on a rebound in the 12th minute, and Bukayo Saka, who sealed the win in stoppage time with a composed finish.
The result leaves Arsenal well-placed in the standings, while Onyemaechi will hope for more opportunities to impress in the coming fixtures.
