Super Eagles striker Boniface in contention to face St. Pauli despite missing Thursday's training
Published: October 02, 2025
Werder Bremen have received a timely boost ahead of their Bundesliga home clash with FC St. Pauli on Saturday, as Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is expected to be available despite missing Thursday's training session, according to a report by Deichstube.
The 24-year-old attacker had been rested as a precaution following a minor foot knock sustained earlier in the week.
Coach Horst Steffen confirmed that the decision to keep Boniface out of training was part of a load management strategy, aimed at ensuring the striker’s full fitness for the upcoming match.
Steffen reassured fans that Boniface is expected to return to training with the squad on Friday and should be ready to feature against St. Pauli.
His availability will be crucial for Werder Bremen as they look to secure a positive result at home.
The striker’s fitness also comes at a key moment for the Super Eagles, with Boniface's form and readiness closely monitored ahead of Nigeria's back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin.
Boniface was named in the Super Eagles' provisional squad for their September internationals, but did not crack the final list for a pair of World Cup qualifiers with Rwanda and South Africa.
The Bayer Leverkusen loanee has one assist in three Bundesliga appearances for Werder Bremen.
