Chelsea, West Ham and Belgian clubs face Liverpool competition for Flying Eagles midfielder
Published: October 03, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Liverpool have entered the race to sign highly-rated Flying Eagles midfielder Abduljelil Kamaldeen, who has attracted strong interest from several top European clubs following his performance at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
The 16-year-old made a strong impression during his brief appearance in Nigeria's 1-0 defeat to Norway in their opening game of the tournament.
Coming on in the final twelve minutes of the match, Kamaldeen helped the Flying Eagles take control of the midfield and pile more pressure on the Norwegians in their push for an equalizer.
Though he did not feature in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia on Friday, scouts from across Europe continue to monitor his progress closely.
The youngster’s rise has drawn attention from Chelsea, West Ham, Royal Antwerp, and Anderlecht, with Liverpool now joining the pursuit.
The Reds are reported to have already met with Kamaldeen’s representatives and are planning further discussions in a bid to secure his signature.
Chelsea are also pushing strongly, leveraging the expertise of former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana, who now serves as the club's head of African scouting.
Meanwhile, West Ham have held initial talks but appear to be trailing in the chase, while Belgian giants Anderlecht and Royal Antwerp are positioning themselves as attractive destinations, offering a pathway to immediate professional football in Europe.
However, the Belgian clubs including Anderlecht are also hoping to secure the deal, with a project to ensure the 16-year-old get first access to professional football in Europe.
Despite the heavy competition, Liverpool are confident of their chances and see Kamaldeen as a long-term prospect for the club’s future.
