Leicester RB who broke Ndidi's record handed late England U20 call-up after Nigeria approach
Published: October 09, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that England U20s boss Ben Futcher has handed a late call-up to Leicester City's dual-national defender Olabade Aluko ahead of Friday's friendly against Switzerland.
The highly rated right-back has already reported for duty and is in contention to make his debut for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup winners when they take to the pitch at St. George's Park.
Interestingly, Aluko replaces another fullback of Nigerian descent, Rangers youngster Jayden Megoma, who was forced to withdraw from the squad.
The English FA appear to be making the first move in their bid to secure Aluko's international allegiance, with the Nigeria Football Federation also closely monitoring the teenager's progress.
Before the ongoing Fifa U20 World Cup, the NFF made contact with Aluko, extending an invitation for him to train with the Flying Eagles under manager Aliyu Zubairu.
However, he was unable to honour the call-up due to club commitments as the training camp fell outside Fifa's international window.
A product of Leicester City's academy, Aluko has been included in four first-team matchday squads, an indication of the high regard in which he is held at the King Power Stadium.
When he made his senior debut on the final day of last season, Aluko became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in a Premier League match for Leicester City, aged 18 years and 176 days.
His appearance broke the previous record set by Wilfred Ndidi, who made his Premier League debut for the Foxes at 20 years and 29 days old against Chelsea in January 2017.
