Confirmed: Chelsea sign Nigerian centre-back from Peterborough United after successful trial
Published: October 13, 2025
Through a statement on the official website, Chelsea have announced the signing of Nigerian central defender Justin Osagie on undisclosed terms, following a successful trial with the club.
The 20-year-old joins the Premier League giants as a free agent after his contract with Peterborough United expired.
Osagie impressed Chelsea's academy coaches during his trial period, earning himself a permanent deal with the club.
The young defender has already been integrated into the Blues' development setup, having made the matchday squad for the EFL Trophy fixture against Northampton Town on September 23, where he was an unused substitute.
Osagie's career has seen him progress through the youth ranks at Southend United and West Ham United, before a move north to join Celtic in Scotland.
He returned to England in October 2024, signing for Peterborough United after another impressive trial spell.
Prior to his switch to Celtic, Osagie was on the radar of several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.
During his time with the Hoops, he made his UEFA Youth League debut, coming off the bench against Dutch side Feyenoord in December 2023.
Eligible to represent both Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland, Osagie has previously been invited to an Ireland U19 training camp but is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Boys in Green.
