Super Eagles Cruise Into Afcon Final
Published: February 06, 2013
Nigeria continue to impress and has qualified for her seventh African Cup of Nations final after defeating West African rivals Mali 4 - 1 (3 - 0) in a one-sided game at the the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The Eagles got the curtain raiser through an unlikely source. In the 25th minute, after some brilliant piece of magic from Chelsea's Victor Moses down the right flank, he crossed the ball to Braga's Uwa Echiejile, who bravely nodded in with a diving header.
Five minutes later, Brown Ideye showed strength and character to double the Eagles advantage. Just before the break, tournament's leading scorer Emmanuel Emenike's deflected shot gave Nigeria an unassailable 3-0 lead.
On the hour mark, Nigeria completed the humiliation of Mali. Substitute Ahmed Musa received a pass from Mikel Obi and had no trouble beating goalkeeper Samassa. Check Diarra scored a consolation goal for the Malians with a quarter of an hour left.
Nigeria will meet the winner of the second semi-final between Ghana and Burkina Faso on Sunday.
