Martins Heaps Praise On Sounders Fans
Published: March 17, 2013
Though Obafemi Martins was frustrated that his debut for Seattle Sounders ended in a 1 - 1 draw, the Nigeria striker has heaped praise on the fans for their unrivaled support against Portland Timbers on Saturday.
MLSsoccer.com quoted Martins as saying: ''I’m going to choose them as one of the best fans. I’ve played for a lot of clubs and it’s different here. They’re friendly and really support the team, which is good. I like that.''
28 - year- old Martins, who is now expected to fly from the United States to Nigeria for a World Cup qualifier against Kenya, played the last 20 minutes of the encounter at CenturyLink Field.
''We wanted to give him the opportunity. His mind, his spirit, his soul is here. He wants us to succeed and be successful.
"He’ll get better and I think the things he can do, his quickness, will show through,'' said Head Coach Sigi Schmid.
