'It wasn't my idea' - Arokodare reveals Osimhen told him to dedicate goal to injured Dolberg

Ajax striker Tolu Arokodare has revealed that his international teammate Victor Osimhen advised him to show support for Kasper Dolberg during Saturday night’s 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward opened the scoring in the first half, heading home a cross from Jorthy Mokio.

Arokodare then dedicated his goal celebration to Dolberg by raising the Danish striker’s number nine shirt in front of the fans.

Dolberg suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while training with the Danish national team during the international break.

Speaking after the match, Arokodare expressed his appreciation to Osimhen for encouraging him to honour his club teammate through the celebration.

"I wanted to do something like this. Or rather, it wasn't my idea;” Arokodare said via Habersarikirmizi .

“Osimhen told me, 'You should do something like this,' and I did. I thank him for that."

Osimhen had previously made a similar gesture in support of his former club teammate Mauro Icardi, who also suffered an ACL injury during the 2024/2025 season.
