Agent Reacts To Exclusion Of Chelsea Midfielder Obi Mikel From Nigeria Squad
Published: May 28, 2015
One of the surprise omissions from the Super Eagles squad list announced last week is Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Days leading up to the announcement of the roster, manager Stephen Keshi had dropped a big hint that he was not inviting the 28 - year - old for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad, saying the player has become incommunicado.
John Obi Mikel’s agent, John Shittu, did not confirm or deny whether the Super Eagles coach was in touch with his client before the list was made public but it can be inferred from his statement that all is not well between master and pupil.
“I can not discuss the relationship between a manager and his player, so I can not comment on that,”John Shittu said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
It is believed that Mikel’s spot in the roster was handed to unheralded midfielder Anderson Esiti, who defends the colours of Estoril.
Esiti found playing opportunities at the Portuguese setup difficult to come by in the just concluded season, with only 1,051 minutes of game time under his belt out of a possible 3,060 minutes.
In other words, the 21 - year - old managed to be involved in 34 percent of Estoril’s games in the course of the season.
