Sunday Oliseh Denies He Insulted Late Mother Of Vincent Enyeama
Published: October 09, 2015
Nigeria manager Sunday Oliseh has opened up on the circumstances that led to the departure of Vincent Enyeama from the Super Eagles camp 24 hours to his side’s clash with Democratic Republic of Congo.
Oliseh has issued a vehement denial of the accusation that he insulted the Lille goalkeeper’s late mother who was buried about a week ago, adding that they had settled their rift, only for him to get a message from Nigeria before Wednesday morning’s workout.
“It is puzzling really, to say the least I am hurt and disappointed at the character assassination that Vincent has taken on my personality, ” Oliseh said in an interview published by NFF’s YouTube account.
“John Obi Mikel, Emenike, Musa, Onazi and Echiejile came to my room and told me they have spoken to him (Vincent Enyeama), I said he can stay around we are trying to build a team.
“And then the next morning came, everything was settled, we ate breakfast. As we were about to go for training I received a message from back home where Vincent had make public that I insulted his mother when I spoke to the team and this was hurtful and a blatant lie.”
Oliseh continued : “I found it insane because you can’t make a false accusation when there are so many witnesses , as many as 19 players and 3 other officials, and there was no reason to talk about him because he just came into camp.
“He was trying to make people sympathize that he was mistreated, he was the captain of the team.”
Sunday Oliseh also revealed that he had contacted a team official to arrange for the team to wear black armbands in honour of Enyeama’s late mother before the squad faced Tanzania last month but the plan was discarded as an approval had to be obtained from CAF, which was not possible at short notice.
