Exclusive : Spezia Leapfrog Chelsea, Kalmar In Race For Orji Okonkwo
Published: November 21, 2015
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that Italian Serie B club Spezia have overtaken EPL sides Chelsea and West Ham in the scramble for the signature of Nigeria Under 17 international Orji Okonkwo.
Previously there had been issues over the ownership rights of the striker but St Thomas FC and Football College Abuja are now on the same page, with the Benin City - based club signing an agreement with the capital outfit that stipulates that they will be entitled to a sell - on clause if the player joins a foreign club.
Football College Abuja have an excellent relationship with Spezia and have done transfer business with The Little Eagles in the past regarding the sale of Nura Abdullahi and Sadiq Umar and are pleased with the development of the youngsters since their arrival in Italy.
The higher - ups at Football College Abuja want Orji Okonkwo to follow the same path, and are not prepared to listen to offers for him, especially as he has spent the last two years training with the Aquilotti, if he is not with the Under 17 National Team.
Orji Okonkwo and his representatives were at the Italian embassy in Lagos on Monday to begin processing his traveling documents to Liguria.
Swedish club Kalmar had explored the possibility of snapping him up but were told he was not available for sale.
