Alex Iwobi Officially Promoted To Arsenal First Team
Published: February 12, 2016
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi will no longer feature for the Under-21 team of Arsenal, as he has been officially promoted to their first-team.
The Gunners manager, Arsene Wenger, announced ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash with Leicester City that he won’t be loaning out the forward before the end of this season, with the emergency loan window opening for business three days ago.
Jeorge Bird has reported that Iwobi will keep his number 45 jersey for the rest of this campaign but will be allocated a lower squad number before the start of next season.
The 19-year-old has featured in every single competition for the Gunners this season- the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, racking up eight appearances in the process.
Having extended his contract in October 2015, the Hale End Academy product is now tied to Arsenal until summer of 2020.
