Nigeria squad announcement: Fulham, Wolves, Brentford stars called up; Okoye, Ejuke, Awaziem return

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Gabon, which will take place in Morocco on November 13.

Among the notable inclusions is goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who returns to the national team after serving a betting-related suspension.

Okoye joins Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie in the goalkeeping department as Chelle looks to assemble a balanced and competitive squad capable of sealing qualification.

Chidera Ejuke and Chidozie Awaziem also earned recalls to the Super Eagles, both returning to the national setup after impressive recent performances for their respective clubs.

Captain William Troost-Ekong leads the defensive lineup that features Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Awaziem, and Zaidu Sanusi.

Semi Ajayi, despite being suspended, has been included in the list, while Benjamin Fredrick also earns a place among the defenders.

The midfield unit combines strength and creativity, with Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Alexander Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, and Alhassan Yusuf all selected.

Their mix of experience and energy will be vital as Nigeria aim to dominate possession and control the tempo of the playoff fixture.

In attack, Victor Osimhen headlines the forward line and will be expected to lead the charge for goals.

He is supported by Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ejuke, who provide pace and width from the flanks.

Akor Adams, Tolu Arokodare, and Olusegun Olakunle complete the offensive options available to Chelle.
