'Treats Icardi like a king' - Bol says Osimhen has no ego, offered Sane chance to take penalty v Ajax
Published: November 07, 2025
Ekol Sports commentator Emre Bol praised Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen for his humility and putting the team first before any individual goals.
The Super Eagles striker earned rave reviews both at home and abroad following his match-winning performance in Galatasaray's 3-0 victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Osimhen became the most expensive signing in Turkish football history last July when he returned for a second spell at Galatasaray for a fee of 75 million euros.
Despite his status as arguably the most high-profile footballer in Turkiye, he has remained grounded and unassuming.
Bol highlighted Osimhen's excellent rapport with teammate Mauro Icardi, the player he replaced as Galatasaray's main striker as evidence of his selflessness.
"Osimhen still treats Icardi like a brother, like a king. The guy has zero ego. Osimhen has no ego at all," Bol was quoted as saying by habersarikirmizi.
"You're the star of the team, the most expensive player, you score constantly. It really strikes me as odd that he's so modest.
"He's a young kid. Young people have their minds in the clouds. He acts like a player who's truly grasped the footballing spirit.
"You won't find a player like that very often. He's also been very supportive of Barış Alper."
Bol recalled an incident in the Champions League match against Ajax, which further demonstrated Osimhen's humility.
Despite being on the verge of scoring his first-ever Champions League hat-trick, the former African Footballer of the year surprised everyone by offering Leroy Sane the chance to take the second penalty.
"It was the last penalty, Osimhen went and gave the ball to Sane and said, 'You score.' Even though he was going to score his first hat-trick in the Champions League, he went and gave the ball to Sane. This is a sign of unity within the team," Bol added.
Osimhen will be looking to reach double figures in goals at club level when Galatasaray face Kocaelispor on Sunday, just four days before he is expected to lead the Super Eagles attack in their 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon's Panthers.
