The Media Officer of Nigeria’s Olympic National Team, Timi Ebikagboro, has confirmed that Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo will not be suiting up for the Samson Siasia-led side at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Allnigeriasoccer.com broke the news that the central defender was considered for the competition by the technical crew but gave a negative response when contacted regarding his availability.
“Kenneth Omeruo pulled out of the Rio Olympics U-23 due to doctors’ advice, he wanted to play but was advised not to risk his career,” Ebikagboro stated.
The 22-year-old has represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 level and has some games under his belt in the World Cup and Confederations Cup.
Omeruo was not in action on Sunday against Galatasaray due to an unknown complaint.
