Published: May 22, 2016
Swedish Superettan side IK Frej have opened talks with
their in-form Nigerian striker Oke Akpoveta over the extension of his
contract.
But they face competition from other Scandinavian teams in their bid to secure the signature of the leading scorer in the second-tier, with clubs based in Norway and the Allsvenskan exploring ways to sign the Lyngby loanee.
Akpoveta’s contract with Danish team Lyngby will run out at the end of next month and they have no plans to extend his stay.
“My contract with IK Frej ends next month but they have made an offer and we are still negotiating. There have been other options from Norway and the Swedish best league, ” says Oke Akpoveta to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“The plan is to go to a team where I’ll play almost every time, so that’s why I am not in a hurry. The plan is to keep scoring goals.”
Apart from a brief spell with Azerbaijani club RÉvan in 2014, Oke Akpoveta has spent the whole of his professional career with Scandinavia teams, having worn the jerseys of Brondby, Brønshøj and Lyngby.
