Roma Striker Umar Has A Lot To Smile About After Equaling Agali 16-Year RecordRoma teen sensation Sadiq Umar equaled Victor Agali’s record of scoring in the first two group matches at the Olympic Games after finding the back of the net in the 40th minute against Sweden at the Arena Amazonia on Sunday.

Agali, who starred at Sydney 2000, scored Nigeria U23s second goal in their 3-3 draw with Honduras on September 13, before netting a memorable winner in the 3-2 victory over hosts Australia three days later.

The 19-year-old Umar netted on his competitive debut for Nigeria U23s as they earned a 5-4 win over Japan in their opening game in Brazil.

If he scores against Colombia in two days time, he will become the first Nigerian player to get on the score sheet in every singe game in the group stage of the Olympics, and, on top of that, equal the record set by Victor Obinna eight years ago for scoring in consecutive matches.

Nicknamed the New Nwankwo Kanu back in his homeland, Umar was born six months after the former Arsenal striker led Nigeria to win the Olympic gold in Atlanta in 1996.
