Chelsea Sing Praises Of Nigeria GK Daniel, Sadiq Umar, Imoh Ezekiel
Published: August 14, 2016
Premier League club Chelsea praised Nigeria U23s goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel following his imperious display against Denmark in the quarterfinal of the Olympic Games on Saturday in their review of the match.
With their midfielder John Obi Mikel giving the Dream Team the lead after 15 minutes, the Enugu Rangers netminder prevented the opponents from equalizing, making at least two world-class saves.
“Indeed, Nigeria needed a flurry of fine first-half saves from their goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, especially from Danish midfielder Frederick Borsting, to maintain their lead, ” Chelsea stated on their official website.
Though their primary responsibility was to score goals, the Blues showered praise on Nigerian forwards Sadiq Umar and Imoh Ezekiel for being involved in defensive duties.
“Mikel and his team-mates stood firm, nevertheless, protecting a slightly apprehensive back four, as they defended from the front led by forwards Sadiq Umar and Imoh Ezekiel.”
Following the Dream Team’s qualification for the last four, it is now a hundred percent confirmed that Mikel will not take part in Chelsea’s opening game of the new season against West Ham on Monday.
