Aston Villa Goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem Outshines Reading Duo Odimayo, Shokunbi
Published: August 21, 2016
The highly-rated young Nigerian goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem was assisted by his defenders to post his first shutout of the new season in the U18 Premier League on Saturday.
Reading U18s were held to a goalless draw by Aston Villa at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground (Warwickshire), with Idem in brilliant form.
The 17-year-old, who put in a full shift between the pipes, shone in the second half, making a fine stop and dealt with the dangerous crosses from the Reading wingers.
Defender Ademola Shokunbi and midfielder Akinwale Odimayo started for the Royals while teammate Jamal Balogun watched on from the substitutes bench.
Born in South London, Idem joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2015 from Stoke City, and represented Arsenal prior to his move to the Potters.
His minders have informed allnigeriasoccer.com that he will not reject a call up to the Nigerian youth teams.
