Exclusive : Rescued Ex-Golden Eaglets Star Signs For European Club
Published: September 18, 2016
Former Nigeria Youth International, Kastan Igwe after escaping the bad treatment meted out to him by his second division club in Qatar, on Saturday signed for a Moldova Divizia Nationala club, CSF Speranta Nisporeni.
Igwe completed his medical examinations Friday and would be undergoing a confirmation test Monday ahead of his first match for his new team according to club officials.
The Enugu-born player on line from Ghencea in Alexandru, where the club is based said he is happy that all formalities have been concluded as he is looking forward to play club’s next game on Wednesday, 21st September, 2016 against CSF Milsami.
“I have been training with the team twice daily alongside my other new colleagues, physically am fine. I’m grateful to my manager, Sammy Etuk for this new opportunity to return to the game at the highest level,” he said.
Igwe, who was held up by a Qatar second division club, Al Markhiya Sports Club for over five years in spite of alluring offers from top European clubs, left the national team abruptly after a successful screening in 2009 because of the trip to Qatar, but fell into wrong hands.
He was left off the hook last month after an intervention by the player’s new manager thus putting an end to the draconian contract that kept the player in perpetual bondage.
At 24, Igwe believed he has wasted so many years after his explosive entry into the National Under -17 team as a teenage star, but still plans to pick up the pieces with the new club, saying that for the first time he signed a properly prepared contract in line with FIFA rules, as confirmed by his manager.
The striker, who was regarded as a teenage wonder in Enugu in those days said he is ever grateful to his new manager, Sammy Etuk, who made it possible for him to dump the Al Markhiya Sports Club without crisis, adding that he regards everything concerning his past career prospects as a bad memory.
An excited Igwe said, “I won’t forget Mr. Etuk, he’s so respected anywhere I mentioned him in Europe. Clubs bosses confirmed he’s very honest and sincere.
“They love dealing with him. His partner in Romania, who linked us with the club said he trust Mr. Sam to work with good player. The partner, Mr. Yasser Chami is also very professional unlike others I’ve worked with in the past six years.”
The exhilarating striker, who is often referred to as a speed star because of his lightening dribbling runs and pace left the shores of Nigeria in 2010 to Qatar few months after debuting in the Nigerian U17 team screening with the hope of becoming a successful professional abroad.
