Tolaji Bola Subbed In; Okonkwo, Amaechi & Omole Absent As Arsenal U19s Suffer Last Minute Heartache
Published: September 28, 2016
Arsenal U19s were beaten 2-1 by FC Basel on match day two in Group A of the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon.
Nigerian defender Tolaji Bola only made the bench when the game started at Meadow Park (Borehamwood) but was introduced by manager Jonker at the start of the second half.
The Swiss team took the lead in the 40th minute with a spectacular long range effort from Cümart and the lead lasted until the 55th minute when Vlad Dragomir equalized after he was set up by Marc Bola.
The very competitive game looked to be heading for a draw but Manzambi scored from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of stoppage time after Johnson had committed a foul.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, Joseph Olowu, Tobi Omole, Xavier Amaechi and Aaron Eyoma did not feature for the Gunners while Noah Okafor is away on international duty with Switzerland U17s and didn’t travel to London with Basel.
