Nigeria U20 Star Ihezuo: Like Amunike, Taribo West & Siasia, I Started Playing Football In Ajegunle
Published: November 19, 2016
Falconets star Chinwendu Ihezuo has revealed that she started playing football in Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb that produced the likes of Taribo West, Samson Siasia, Emmanuel Amunike, Odion Ighalo and Brown Ideye.
The BIIK Kazygurt attacker says playing with boys in the neighborhood improved her as a player and made her more fit.
“I began playing the game as a young girl, and soon realised that I had a talent for it,” Ihezuo explained to fifa.com.
“I always played with the boys, which made me even stronger. That gave me several advantages when facing girls my own age.”
Quizzed about the chances of Nigeria reaching the final after a shaky start against Japan, she said : “The title is all that matters to us, and we’ve got our sights set on it again.”
Ihezuo holds the record for most goals scored in a single U-17 Women’s World Cup game after finding the target five times in an 11-0 victory over Azerbaijan in 2012.
