Arsenal Loanee Kelechi Nwakali Scores His First Professional Goal
Published: December 09, 2016
Nigeria U20 international Kelechi Nwakali scored the first professional goal of his career as MVV Maastricht defeated De Graafschap 2-0 in the Dutch Eerste Divisie on Friday night.
Thomas Verheijdt converted a penalty in the 31st minute to make it 1-0 in favour of the home team, before Nwakali ensured the three points were safe with his maiden goal for MVV in the third minute of stoppage time.
Nwakali has started the last seven matches contested by Ron Elsen’s side in the league, and bagged an assist against Fortuna Sittard on November 18.
The Flying Eagles skipper penned a five-year contract with Arsenal in August, before he was farmed out on loan to MVV Maastricht after failing to secure a work permit.
After 18 rounds in the Dutch second-tier, MVV occupy the third position with 36 points garnered, two less than VVV Venlo who lead the way.
