Martins Battling For Champions League Roster Spot With Highest Paid Player In The World
Published: January 23, 2017
Obafemi Martins will discover if he has been named in Shanghai Greenland Shenhua’s Champions League roster on Tuesday, January 24.
The Asian Football Confederation have implemented a 3+1 rule, that is teams are allowed to field a maximum of four foreign players, one of whom must be from an Asian country.
But Shanghai Greenland Shenhua have five foreigners on their payroll : Obafemi Martins, Carlos Tevez, Giovanni Moreno, Fredy Guarín and Kim Kee-hee.
While the Japanese defender is guaranteed a spot on the roster, Martins will have to compete with the three other foreigners for the remaining spots.
The Nigeria international was the joint second highest goalscorer for the Chinese team in the league last season, with 9 goals to his name from 26 appearances.
