Cameroon Skipper Echoes Memories Of AFCON Win Against Nigeria When Milla Lifted Trophy
Published: February 07, 2017
Twenty nine years after the substantive Cameroon skipper Emile Mbouh-Mbouh decided that the influential striker Roger Milla should lift the African Cup of Nations, the drama was repeated on Sunday in Gabon after their 2-1 win against Egypt in the final.
The Indomitable Lions won their second African Cup of Nations title after beating Nigeria 1-0 in the final, with Emmanuel Kunde netting the only goal of the game in the 55th minute.
Milla, then on the books of Montpellier HSC in France, had announced his international retirement, and the trophy was handed to him as a mark of tribute.
Captain Benjamin Moukandjo made the same request to Lyon defender Nicolas Nkoulou by allowing him lift the trophy in Libreville.
