Nigeria World Cup Star Uchebo Holding Out For Rosenborg Move Amid Interest From China
Published: March 02, 2017
Nigeria international Michael Uchebo has passed up an opportunity to join Yanbian FC due to his desire to continue playing football in Europe.
Representatives of Uchebo held high-level talks in London and La Manga (Spain) with the General Manager of the Chinese side who was keen to recruit the giant striker.
However, Uchebo’s reps have been in close contact with Rosenborg for the past few weeks after the Norwegian powerhouse expressed an interest in his services, and the lanky forward has informed his reps that he favours a move to the Norwegian giants over China so that he can continue plying his trade in Europe.
It appears however that negotiations may have hit a stumbling block as the striker now appears to be gearing up for a return to the Belgian First Division A, where he built a good reputation few years ago.
A family member of the player told allnigeriasoccer.com : “Michael is not ready for China just yet, he really wanted to join Rosenborg because the club offers him the opportunity to possibly play in the Champions League but I don’t think he’s going there anymore. It seems he will now be going to Belgium”.
Uchebo last represented Boavista but left the club by mutual consent in January 2017 after the club ran into financial difficulties and could no longer afford his wages.
He was the highest paid player in the club.
