Bayer Leverkusen coach reveals when Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella will return from injury

Bayer Leverkusen manager Kasper Hjulmand has provided an update on the fitness of Nathan Tella, confirming that the Nigerian international is set to return to full training after the international break in November 2025.

The 26-year-old winger has been sidelined since September 12, 2025, after picking up a knee injury during his side’s 3-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hjulmand confirmed in a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga clash with FC Heidenheim that Tella remains unavailable for selection.

"Nathan and Axel train individually at the moment. The international break will do them good, and then they will also join team training," Hjulmand stated.

"I hope and believe that they will be back after the break."

Tella has made just four appearances across all competitions this season due to his injury, limiting his impact for both club and country.

His absence has also affected his involvement with the Nigerian national team, as he missed the Super Eagles’ last four Fifa World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho and Benin.

Nigeria finished as runners-up in the group, securing qualification for the World Cup playoffs against Gabon, scheduled for next week in Morocco.

Nathan Tella is expected to miss Leverkusen's upcoming Bundesliga game but is anticipated to rejoin full team training once the international break concludes, providing a boost to both his club and the Nigerian national team ahead of key fixtures.
