Nigerian Messi, Adekanye To Be Promoted By Liverpool & Included In Champions League Roster
Published: June 15, 2017
Former Barcelona wonderkid Bobby Adekanye is set to be promoted by Liverpool when the new season begins in August 2017, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Since the Nigerian-born Netherlands youth international arrived at Anfield two years ago from PSV Eindhoven, the winger has played mainly for the U18 team, but he won't be eligible to represent that age group in the new season.
Liverpool started to prepare Adekanye to join their U23s last season, with the wing wizard making a competitive appearance for the squad when they hammered Rochdale 6-0 the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup.
He is expected to make more appearances for the Reserves next term, with left winger Sheyi Ojo earmarked for a loan move or promotion to the first team after starring at the recently concluded Fifa U20 World Cup.
Liverpool will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and Adekanye is eligible to be registered on their List B, having spent the last two years with the club.
Dubbed the Nigerian Messi in his homeland, the 18-year-old made 21 appearances for the U18s during the 2016-2017 season, and was on target against Derby County.
