'A complete player' - Ajax coach hails Osimhen, plots to end Galatasaray striker's scoring streak
Published: November 04, 2025
Ajax manager John Heitinga has promised that his side will do everything possible to stop the red-hot Victor Osimhen when they face Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen has been in blistering form for the Turkish champions, netting three goals in two matches against Liverpool and Bodo/Glimt.
The Super Eagles striker has also scored in each of his last seven European games, setting a new club record after his brace against the Norwegian side.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Heitinga hailed the Nigerian forward's quality, describing him as one of the most complete strikers in world football.
"Osimhen is a great striker. He's smart, strong, and fast; you have to be smart about that. He's a pretty complete player," Heitinga said.
"I do consider him one of the better strikers at the moment. There are few players as fast as him."
Despite acknowledging the threat posed by the 26-year-old, the former Everton defender insisted Ajax have a plan to contain him when both sides meet at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday night.
"I hope we'll have more control on the ball and that what I see in training, I'll see in the match tomorrow. We'll do everything we can to neutralize him," he added.
Ajax have endured a difficult Champions League campaign so far, conceding eleven goals in their opening three matches.
However, Heitinga will be hopeful that his players can execute their defensive strategy and keep the Galatasaray talisman quiet.
Osimhen, meanwhile, will be looking to extend his remarkable scoring run and help Galatasaray take another step toward the knockout stages.
