Why Liverpool's World Cup-Winning Winger Did Not Face Old Club Wigan
Published: July 15, 2017
Liverpool continued their preparations for the forthcoming season with another friendly on Friday evening against League One club Wigan Athletic.
England U20 international Sheyi Ojo missed the chance to face his former team after he was left out of the traveling party to the DW Stadium while Ovie Ejaria was snubbed for the second straight game by manager Jürgen Klopp.
Klopp explained why Ojo was not involved, stating : ''He was at home because we changed at half-time 10 players, 11 with the goalkeeper, twice and I thought it makes not much sense to change again 20 minutes into the second half.
''That’s why a few players stayed at home. ''
Ojo started and played forty five minutes of Liverpool's 4-0 rout of Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Wednesday night.
He spent the second half of the 2014-15 season on loan at Wigan Athletic, and recorded 11 appearances for the club in the Championship.
