Lagerback Happy Nigeria Qualified For World Cup, Wants Gero In Super Eagles
Published: November 20, 2017
Former Nigeria coach Lars Lagerbäck says he's impressed with the progress of östersunds FK frontman Alhaji Gero, and thinks he is good enough to join up with the Super Eagles ahead of next summer's mundial.
Gero exchanged pleasantries with the manager of the Norwegian National Team at an awards ceremony in Stockholm on Monday night.
''We talked about the Super Eagles. Lagerback said he's impressed and happy to see Nigeria in the World Cup and he asked me about my chances of playing for the national team,'' said Gero to allnigeriasoccer.com.
''I told him I'm ready if the chance comes because my team are in the Europa League and leading their group. I told him that Allah's time is the best.
''He is happy with the season and my performance in the Europa League, he's really proud and happy for me.''
Lars Lagerbäck was in charge of the Super Eagles at the 2010 World Cup and refused to extend his contract at the end of the tournament in South Africa.
He did wonders for Iceland for five years before accepting to coach the Norwegian national team in February 2017.
