Basel's Swiss-Nigerian Defender Talks Up Move To Manchester United
Published: November 26, 2017
FC Basel central defender Manuel Akanji has revealed he would be interested in a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
Akanji impressed in Basel's 1-0 win over United this past week and also went the distance when both teams faced off on match day one in the Champions League back in September.
Speaking to credit-suisse.com on his expectations in the coming years, Akanji said : ''I want to stay healthy, go with Switzerland to the World Cup, and someday play for Manchester United.''
Having appeared for Switzerland at U20 and U21 level, Akanji was still eligible to represent the Super Eagles until June 2017 when he made his competitive debut for the Rossocrociati in their 2-0 win over Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier.
Born to a Nigerian father and Swiss mom, he had stops at FC Wiesendangen and FC Winterthur before transferring to FC Basel in the summer of 2015.
Manuel Akanji is the 2017 Credit Suisse Rookie of the Year.
