2018 World Cup Draw Countdown: Nigeria's Record Against Asia
Published: November 29, 2017
Ahead of the 2018 World Cup draw which takes place in Moscow's famous State Kremlin Palace on Friday, December 1, allnigeriasoccer.com reviews the Super Eagles previous performances against Asian opponents at the grandest of international football stage which is the World Cup.
Nigeria's Asian opponents at the football fiesta remain South Korea and Iran with both clashes resulting to stalemates, with the 2010 clash in South Africa between the Super Eagles and the Taegeuk Warriors ending 2-2 before another 0-0 draw played out between them and Iran.
The 2010 edition saw Kalu Uche open the scoring early on before South Korea rallied back to score twice through Lee Jung-soo and Park Chu-Young to have Nigeria trailing.
Yakubu would eventually convert a 69th minute spot kick to earn the national team a share of the spoils.
The 2014 competition brought little joy and no goals too as Nigeria failed to break down a resilient Iranian side, a game fraught with much near-misses which ultimately ended all square.
