Manchester United, Manchester City Battle For Ecuadorian Goal Machine
Published: February 23, 2018
Manchester United and Manchester City are battling it out for the signature of Stiven Plaza, according to reports.
GloboEsporte says representatives of the Red Devils and the Citizens are monitoring the Ecuadorian wonderkid at the ongoing 2018 U-20 Copa Libertadores in Uruguay with a view to a transfer in the near future.
Plaza is one of the most sought-after players in the tournament after scoring seven goals in his first two matches, including a double brace in Independiente del Valle's 6-1 rout of Sport Huancayo.
Apart from the interest of European clubs, São Paulo, Flamengo and Cruzeiro are also keeping tabs on the striker.
According to the player himself, his contract with Independiente del Valle will run out in the next three years.
Antonio Valencia has been on the books of Manchester United since 2009, and the youngster would join one of Ecuador's most successful players at Old Trafford if United win the race for his signature.
Stiven Plaza started his career as a midfielder before switching to the attacking position.
