Bolton Wanderers Pull Off Transfer Coup By Signing German-Nigerian Striker Obasi
Published: March 03, 2018
EFL Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers have pulled off a transfer coup by signing the experienced Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi on a short-term deal until the end of the 2017-18 season.
Swedish Allsvenskan side AIK Fotboll did everything possible to extend his stay but could not meet the wage demands of the former Schalke 04 man, which pulled the plug on the deal.
Obasi had impressed while on trial at Bolton Wanderers, netting the winner for the U23 team in their 1-0 win over Burnley in a Professional Development League fixture at Macron Stadium on February 21 after coming off the bench.
It should be noted that the Trotters were able to sign Obasi because he was a free agent as at the close of the January transfer window and most importantly there was no work permit hassle as the striker is in the possession of a German passport.
The ex-Flying Eagles and Dream Team star began his professional career at Norwegian side Lyn in 2005, before joining Hoffenheim, whom he helped gain promotion to the top-flight in his first season in Germany.
The 31-year-old links up with ex-Nigeria U20 international Sammy Ameobi at Bolton Wanderers.
He has also worn the jersey of Chinese club Shenzhen.
