Super Eagles LB Idowu, Echiejile & Aina : Rohr Says He Is Not Confused
Published: March 30, 2018
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has stressed that he's not confused about his first-choice left-back ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
Though the German did not put it down in black and white, Amkar Perm defender Brian Idowu appears to be ahead of Elderson Echiejile (Monaco) and Ola Aina (Chelsea) in his pecking order of left backs, with the Russian-based star starting the last two games played by the Super Eagles in March.
''I am not confused about who to play in the left back. I am never confused, I have the choice and it is wonderful,'' Rohr told Omasports.
''When I arrived in Nigeria, we had problems in the left back position. We found Tyronne Ebuehi, Ola Aina and Brown Idowu and that is a big competition, it is no confusion. It is a competition and that is very fare.''
Rohr admitted that he is facing a selection dilemma but has welcomed it nonetheless, as he has three quality players to pick from for the left-back position.
The former Bayern Munich defender added : ''Against Poland, Brian Idowu did very well, he plays in Russia which could be a big advantage for him.
''Ola Aina is doing very well in Hull city. We also have Elderson Echiejile, a very good experienced player.
''So it will be a difficult choice for us but the coach is happy when he has more players in a position and must pick the best one.''
Idowu went the distance against Poland but was withdrawn after 85 minutes in the Super Eagles loss to Serbia on Tuesday.
