Red-Hot Chelsea Striker Named Number One Player In WSL
Published: April 23, 2018
Dazzling Chelsea striker, Fran Kirby has been recognized for her influential performances in the English WSL with the Professional Footballers Association Women's Player of the Year award.
The Blues Ladies goal poacher was one of five players from Chelsea to be shortlisted for the award alongside her teammates Millie Bright, Ji So-yun, Maren Mjelde and Ramona Bachmann who have all impressed this season.
Kirby, 24, has been phenomenal in the final third this campaign, inspiring Chelsea to sit atop the standings in the division while scoring 22 goals across all competitions for her team who are still on course for a double this term.
Following her displays, Chelsea are three points above Manchester City in the WSL league but they would have to turn around a 3-1 first leg deficit if they can reach the final when they travel to take on Wolfsburg in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Sunday.
Lagos-born striker, Eniola Aluko is on the books of Chelsea and they would have to require her efficiency in front of goal, alongside Kirby's for the return leg.
