Chelsea Disagree With Nigerian Defender, Hull City : It Was An Own Goal
Published: April 23, 2018
Chelsea have disagreed with Hull City over the goal they credited to England U21 international of Nigerian descent Fikayo Tomori last weekend, saying it was an own goal.
As the Blues are his parent club, it may not have helped the right back's case of claiming to have scored his first professional goal against Bristol City in a ten-goal thriller at Ashton Gate Stadium.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Tomori's downward header hit the woodwork onto goalkeeper Frank Fielding and into the net, and both Hull City and Bristol City officially awarded the goal to the Canadian-born defender.
In their weekly review of their players out on loan, the official website of Chelsea wrote : ''Ola Aina and Fikayo Tomori helped Hull City secure survival in the Championship in a crazy 5-5 draw away at Bristol City.
''Despite the Tigers taking the lead, they found themselves 3-1 down shortly after half-time, with Tomori replacing his fellow defender Aina at right-back shortly before the break.
''The latter kick-started the comeback by heading in three minutes after Bristol's third, although it was later credited as an own-goal for keeper Frank Fielding. ''
Apart from the aforementioned players of Nigerian descent, Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo, Tammy Abraham and Ike Ugbo have been farmed out on loan for the entirety of this season.
