Published: June 25, 2018
The experienced Manchester United central defender Marcos Rojo may return to Argentina's starting lineup in tomorrow's crucial match against Nigeria in St. Petersburg, according to reports.
The former Estudiantes LP star started Argentina's 1-1 draw with Iceland but was dropped for the 3-0 loss to Croatia last week.
According to Argentina sports daily Ole, Rojo played for the Team A in their final training session on Monday morning before they traveled to St. Petersburg for their match day three fixture against the Super Eagles.
The 28-year-old is expected to partner Manchester City's Nicolás Otamendi in central defense, with Gabriel Mercado and Nicolás Tagliafico taking up the full back positions.
Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuaín is likely to get the nod from manager Jorge Sampaoli, ahead of Sergio Agüero and Paulo Dybala, to partner Lionel Messi in attack in a 4-4-2 formation.
Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero has been seriously criticized following his error that led to Croatia opening the scoring and will not be in goal against Nigeria, uncapped River Plate star Franco Armani is the man to replace him.
Argentina Projected Starting XI Vs Nigeria : Franco Armani; Gabriel Mercado, Nicolás Otamendi, Marcos Rojo and Nicolás Tagliafico; Enzo Pérez, Javier Mascherano, Ever Banega and Angel Di María; Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuaín.
