Chelsea Legend Zola Names The Gifted Player That Prevented Moses From Starting Vs Man City
Published: September 25, 2018
Chelsea assistant coach Gianfranco Zola has revealed why Victor Moses was not in the starting line-up last month when The Blues met Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's League Cup third round clash against Liverpool, Zola said that England U17 World Cup winning winger Callum Hudson-Odoi was picked ahead of the former Nigeria international.
The Chelsea coaches also have a big decision to make tomorrow as the gifted Hudson-Odoi is confirmed to be in the traveling party to Anfield, which will reduce the chances of Moses getting game time.
''Callum has done extremely well in pre-season, one of the players who impressed the most with Ethan Ampadu,'' Zola told reporters.
''They're two players with bright futures. They are both in contention tomorrow, in the squad, and we will see.....''
He added : ''Don't forget that, when we played the Community Shield, he was in ahead of players like Victor Moses. If he hasn't got the consideration of the value, we wouldn't have done that. He is the future.
''But he's in a very competitive team. He has to be patient, wait for his opportunities and, when they come, take them in the best way."
Moses has yet to start a competitive game for Chelsea in the new season and was an unused substitute in the last two games against PAOK and West Ham.
